City of Rancho Cucamonga Expands Safe Routes to School Initiative with All Kids Bike Program

Donation from Ryan Dungey Foundation Brings Bicycle Safety Education to Local School

The City of Rancho Cucamonga has partnered with All Kids Bike to teach kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students at Alta Loma Elementary how to ride a bike as part of their physical education curriculum. This initiative is made possible through a generous donation from motocross champion Ryan Dungey and the Ryan Dungey Foundation. The program supports the City’s ongoing efforts to promote active transportation and healthy lifestyles, helping young residents build confidence and develop lifelong wellness habits from an early age.

Dungey has dedicated his foundation to empowering communities and fostering active, healthy lifestyles among youth. His donation was made possible through a collaboration with Dunlop Motorcycle Tires, located at 8656 Haven Ave. in Rancho Cucamonga, where the bikes were assembled before being delivered to the school.

“Since 2022, our partnership with the Ryan Dungey Foundation has helped bring the joy of biking to countless kindergartners across the country,” said Lisa Weyer, executive director of All Kids Bike. “It’s been incredible to work alongside a partner that shares our commitment to kids’ health and confidence through physical activity.”

The donation, valued at $9,000, includes teacher training and certification, a fleet of 24 balance-to-pedal bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, an instructional bike and helmet for the teacher, two rolling metal storage racks, and access to a resource portal with live support throughout the program. The program will launch in the fall, teaching students how to ride by first mastering balance and coordination through the proven balance bike method.

This initiative aligns with the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Safe Routes to School program, which encourages students to develop healthy habits and build confidence on a bike from an early age. As students grow, they will be better equipped to utilize the City’s expanding bike infrastructure to commute to school, explore their community, and enjoy recreational activities, contributing to reduced car congestion and pollution.

“The City is excited to welcome the All Kids Bike program and is looking at ways to expand it across Rancho Cucamonga,” said Justine Garcia, Deputy Director of Engineering. “Encouraging students to develop biking skills at a young age not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also supports our broader efforts in active transportation and sustainability.”

The City encourages community members, local organizations, and other schools to learn more about the All Kids Bike program and explore opportunities to bring this impactful initiative to more students across Rancho Cucamonga.
