New Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at RC Sports Center

City of Rancho Cucamonga Unveils Fastest Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at RC Sports Center

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is excited to announce the City's newest and fastest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station at the RC Sports Center (8309 Rochester Avenue). This $1.2 million project, with 35% funded through multiple grants, reflects the City's commitment to supporting clean transportation and reducing emissions. By enhancing EV infrastructure, Rancho Cucamonga aims to make EV ownership more accessible and convenient for residents. The RC Sports Center EV charging stations officially opened for public use on January 29, 2025.

As the demand for electric vehicle charging increases, and Rancho Cucamonga embraces the electric transportation mantra and reduces greenhouse gases, four (4) 200kW DC Fast Charger (DCFC) Electric Vehicle Charging Stations have been installed at the RC Sports Center parking lot as part of the EV Charging Station Hub. These high-power chargers are the fastest charging stations in the city, similar to the Tesla Supercharger sites at Victoria Gardens. Current pricing for DCFC is set at $0.35 per kW. This EV Hub provides a state-of-the-art and fast-charging opportunity for EV drivers and complements the Epicenter Master Plan and the future buildout of this area.

“We are thrilled to unveil this resource, which marks a significant step toward our city’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy,” said Fred Lyn, Engineering Services Deputy Director. “By expanding our EV charging infrastructure, we are empowering residents to transition to electric vehicles to help us promote clean transportation.”

The new EV chargers can provide a significant charge in just 20-30 minutes, which is about 100-200 miles in range, depending on the vehicle’s charging abilities. The EV chargers will be compatible with most modern electric vehicles. Each station has two connectors, both of which are the Combined Charging System (CCS). A North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector will be added in the future.

Chargers will be available at resident’s and visitor’s convenience 24/7 on a first-come, first-serve basis with some special events in the area that could affect access. Proper lighting and clear signage will be provided to ensure safety and help easily locate the chargers at the RC Sports Center parking lot.

This project supports the city’s sustainability goals by encouraging the use of clean energy vehicles. These charging stations will provide convenience for residents and visitors allowing them to charge their vehicles quickly and efficiently. As the demand for EV charging increases, the city may consider expanding the number of charging stations in the future.
