Have you heard the paw-some news? The Bark at Central Park is open!
Located at Spruce Avenue and Base Line Road, The Bark at Central Park is a new centrally - located 4.4-acre community dog park that includes three separate one-acre enclosures that allow large and small dogs to play independently and off-leash.
Although other amenities have been added in recent years, the addition of the dog park is the first major development of the Central Park area since the community and senior centers were constructed in 2005. In 2017, with community input, the Rancho Cucamonga City Council began the process of updating the Central Park Master Plan to create a vision for the remaining park space. The master plan, adopted in 2020, identified smaller, buildable segments ranging in size from 3 to 10 acres. During this process, the community identified a dog park as one of the top "passive facilities" for Central Park. Using this feedback, the City designated a 4.4-acre site at Central Park for a future dog park. In 2019, the City received grant funding for the project by the California Department of Parks & Recreation and through the assistance and support of Assemblymember James Ramos.
Construction on the dog park began in May 2022 but the project faced several delays due to supply chain and logistical disruptions and an above-average rainy season. The development of the park also included undergrounding major utilities for the project as well as for future phased developments.
With the opening of The Bark at Central Park, the dog park at Etiwanda Creek Park has closed permanently. The Bark at Central Park will now serve as a larger, more centralized space for dogs and their owners and addresses the lack of amenities experienced by users at the former dog park.
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is beyond thrilled to open the gates of the new dog park, which includes a variety of amenities including shade structures, water fountains for dogs and human companions, seating areas, and dog-friendly, drought-tolerant landscaping to provide a welcoming environment for dogs and their owners.
The Bark at Central Park is open 7 days a week from dawn to dusk, although hours may be adjusted in the future.
