The forest area of Cucamonga Canyon, which includes "Sapphire Falls", remains closed until May 2026 per the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).
In August of 2013, the San Bernardino National Forest closed Cucamonga Canyon to all public use as of 12:00 a.m. August 23, 2013. After evaluating the conditions in the area, Forest officials determined a full closure of the canyon was necessary until a management plan can be adopted. The following April, a new Forest Order opened the trail only from Big Tree Road to the stream crossing.
A recently signed USFS Forest Order will keep the forest area off the trail, including "Sapphire Falls," CLOSED through May 2026.
