Rancho Cucamonga, California – Evolution Fresh has joined the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Green Business Recognition Program which recognizes businesses who have demonstrated a commitment towards environmental sustainability. Evolution Fresh, located at 11655 Jersey Boulevard, is the food manufacturing plant for the cold pressed (high pressure-processed) juices. Evolution Fresh purchases, manufactures, and processes fruits and vegetables to create the cold pressed drinks that are distributed throughout the United States. They have been steadfast in their environmental purpose and values and are in alignment with their parent company, Starbucks Coffee Company. Evolution Fresh has focused their sustainability efforts in landfill waste reduction, recycling, water conservation, energy efficiency, and partner engagement. “The City is delighted to have Evolution Fresh participate in the Green Business Recognition Program. Their efforts to reduce organic waste and conserve water in their manufacturing process is truly impressive.” said Management Aide, Deborah Allen.
Evolution Fresh is the first food manufacturing company to be recognized as a Rancho Cucamonga Green Business. They are part of a comprehensive environmental program and their foundation consists of three pillars of sustainability: People, Planet, and Profit. Waste reduction efforts in 2019 include diverting approximately 21,000,000 of organic waste (fruit and vegetables) to a hog farm. For water conservation, Evolution Fresh is on track to save 513,000 gallons of water by adjusting their food manufacturing line.
To maximize energy efficiency, a significant investment to retrofit the entire site with LED lights was completed over a multi-year period. For partner (employee) engagement, Evolution Fresh is currently instituting the Green Apron certification program that trains employees about various sustainability and eco conscious programs and policies. In addition, employees are encouraged and receive monetary compensation to carpool, bicycle, or take public transportation. They also work collaboratively with upstream and downstream partners to ensure environmental sustainability practices are in place. Troy Hoover, VP of Supply Chain for Evolution Fresh and his staff have led these green initiatives and strive to pursue additional efforts to further enhance the environmental sustainability at the site.
The Green Business Recognition Program showcases the sustainability efforts of Rancho Cucamonga businesses and encourages green business practices throughout the community. Businesses that demonstrate environmental practices in various categories such as waste reduction, pollution prevention, recycling, purchasing, energy efficiency, transportation, water efficiency, transportation, and stakeholder engagement and complete no-cost resource assessments are eligible to be recognized as a Healthy RC Green Business. A wide variety of businesses are part of the program ranging from manufacturing to food service, multi-family to office buildings, and hair salons to distribution. Participating businesses receive recognition and exposure through City outlets and at a City Council meeting and are provided with a Healthy RC “Green Business” window decal to display at their business entrance. Participating businesses are also featured in the City’s Rancho Reporter community newsletter and on the City’s Healthy RC website. The Green Business Recognition Program is part of the City’s Healthy RC Program to promote environmentally sustainable practices in the community.
