City of Rancho Cucamonga Provides the Community with Safe, Equitable Access to Exercise with the Addition of an Outdoor Fitness Court®
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is pleased to announce the unveiling of its newest health and wellness amenity at Central Park along the Pacific Electric Trail with a sleek and modern outdoor Fitness Court® by National Fitness Campaign (NFC).
This exciting new addition of an outdoor Fitness Court® allows for free access to high quality workouts for the Rancho Cucamonga community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, fitness options have been significantly reduced, including the public health-ordered closure of the City’s Wellness Pass gym, located inside the James L. Brulte Senior Center. The location of the new Fitness Court® was chosen for its proximity to Central Park, making it easily accessible for both existing Central Park visitors and those who utilize the Pacific Electric Trail.
“This new fitness amenity will aide in our Healthy RC mission to stay active, improve quality of life and create equitable access to exercise for the residents of Rancho Cucamonga.” Rancho Cucamonga Mayor, L. Dennis Michael said.
In November, the City of Rancho Cucamonga was awarded a $30,000 grant from NFC as a featured part of their 2020 initiative that helps support the addition of a Fitness Court®. In addition to the NFC grant funding, the City of Rancho Cucamonga was also awarded a grant in the amount of $75,000 from San Bernardino County’s CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund, intended to help agencies respond to the public health emergency. The timing of the CARES Act funding made reality of a project that had previously been out of reach.
“On behalf of the City Council we are thrilled to have been selected for this funding opportunity to provide this addition that will contribute to a healthier RC.” Michael said.
The Fitness Court®, created by National Fitness Campaign is an open-air exercise amenity that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout. Created with adults of all ages in mind, the Fitness Court® is adaptable for all fitness levels and offers a simple yet effective workout. New users can also download the free Fitness Court® App that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem, available for iOS and Android.
This new fitness amenity reflects the City Council’s core value of promoting and enhancing a safe and healthy community for all, while furthering the Council’s goal to continuously develop Central Park. Central Park’s recent Master Plan update was designed in small buildable segments, so that when funding opportunities are available segments can be built.
