The Upper Cucamonga Storm Drain area is historically a major water-carrying system and the streets in the area are subject to closure to traffic due to flooding during a significant rain event. The Cucamonga Storm Drain Phase 3 project intercepts existing pipes and diverts water that used to flood Chaparral Heights Mobile Home Park.
Because of the amount of flooding that can occur during significant rain events, the mobile home park area is currently located in FEMA Flood Zone A which requires expensive flood insurance. The completion of the Upper Cucamonga Storm Drain Phase 3 project immediately alleviates the flooding conditions that exist in the area and a zone change to the flood insurance rate map will be processed through FEMA. This will reduce money spent on flood insurance for all residents that are in the affected flood zone area.
In addition to the storm drain work, street repair and paving was also completed on Amethyst Avenue from 19th Street to Base Line Road. This project not only provides a reduction in flooding, but also provides a safer environment for families that use Amethyst Avenue to walk or bike to and from school and will provide better vehicle traffic flow for the vehicles that use Amethyst Street between Base Line Road and 19th Street. The completion of this project has been highly anticipated and this would not have been possible without the support and commitment from your Rancho Cucamonga City Council.
